Police are on the hunt for two suspects who abducted a bank teller after she boarded a car on a taxi stand in Rio Claro on Tuesday.

According to a report, around 6.15 am the 29-year-old woman was waiting for a taxi at the Rio Claro/Princes Town hub to go to work but decided to travel by maxi taxi because there were no taxis.

However, police said, a silver-coloured Tiida pulled up on the stand with a male passenger in the front seat.

That’s when the bank teller came out of the maxi taxi and sat in the back seat of the car. The driver drove off towards Princes Town along the Naparima Mayaro Road.

Police said when the taxi got to Ramrattan Tire Shop, San Pedro, the passenger grabbed the woman’s purse containing her iPhone 7 and other items and ordered her to lie down on the back seat with her head down.

The woman became fearful and complied.

Police reports indicated when they got to Moruga Road, the driver received a call and stopped the car.

He then came out together with the passenger and went to the trunk area.

Fearing that she was in further danger, the bank teller told police she grabbed her purse and escaped by running out of the vehicle.

She flagged down a passing car and begged the driver to take to her to the Moruga Police Station where she made a report.

The police viewed CCTV footage, interviewed several people, and commenced a search for the suspects.

However, the men are still at large.

PC Mahabir is investigating.
