Cops probing five murders

One man was killed and two others injured during a shooting in Tunapuna on Monday night.

The dead man was identified as Jafe Randy Phillip, 42, of Bastia Trace, Moruga.

The other two who were injured during the incident are a 29-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman – both of Upper First Trace, Maingot Road; Tunapuna.

Police say around 9.45 pm on Monday, the three were liming at the house at Upper First Trace when four armed men were seen coming from a hilly area to the back of the house, armed with guns.

The woman along with Phillip, who was her boyfriend – and her male relative, attempted to flee the scene as the men opened fire on them.

Following the shooting, the gunmen escaped back over the hills leading to St John’s Road, St Augustine.

Phillip was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The woman was shot in the right hand, and her relative sustained a wound to the right shoulder.

The two were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where they were treated and released.

Among the forensic evidence collected at the scene were 75 5.56 milli-metre spent shells and 72 nine milli-metre shells.

And police are also probing a double murder in Morvant, where a taxi driver of Pelican Extension was shot dead while his girlfriend was chopped to death as they both slept.

The incident reportedly occurred around 1 am at Celestine Trace, Morvant.

Police were in the Morvant area hours before on Monday evening, when a man was shot dead at Pelican Extension while in the company of two others who were also injured.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Peters was killed at Bertram Trace, Valencia around 11 am today.

Peters recently celebrated the birth of a baby in October.
