There are to be more police patrols in Felicity, Chaguanas, following Thursday’s shooting of a 52-year-old man.

Councillor for the area on the Chaguanas Borough Corporation Wendy Francis, made the promise yesterday, as she said that the community has been faced with a growing crime problem.

She spoke with the media following a short ceremony to distribute a laptop and several vouchers at her Cacandee Road, Felicity office.

She said, “There has been an upsurge of criminal activity in Felicity, Endeavour and Chaguanas by extension. What we have seen is that the criminal elements have been working and studying the movements of the residents. With the increased number of tenants residing throughout the Felicity/Endeavour, we found that these persons are observing and timing the residents.”

She said as the elected representative for Felicity/Endeavour and as the chairman for Disaster and Security Committee of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation, she has been collaborating with the Municipal Police to increase police patrols in those areas.

On Thursday, 52-year-old Mahase Rampersad, an employee of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation, was shot by bandits not too far from his home at Cacandee Road. Rampersad had gone to a nearby supermarket around 4 pm to make a purchase. He was shot in his upper leg by bandits.

During yesterday’s ceremoy meanewhile, Francis said the vouchers and laptop were donated by SWAY (Serving Women and Youth).

She said the laptop programme will target underprivileged children. She said food vouchers went to families and were donated by a corporate entity.
