A Couva couple, facing a total of 46 charges relating to sexual abuse of a minor, is expected to apply for bail tomorrow.
Randhir Singh, 44, and his common-law wife Chandroutee Seepersad, 43, initially appeared before a magistracy registrar in the Couva Magistrates’ Court on Monday and were remanded into custody.
The charges stemmed from sexual crimes allegedly committed against a 16-year-old girl during an eight- month period.
Seepersad was charged with 16 counts of causing or encouraging the seduction, prostitution or sexual penetration of a child, three counts of cruelty to a child and four counts of failing to report the abuse of a minor.
Singh was charged with 23 counts of sexual penetration of a child. The couple was arrested on Ash Wednesday at their home by officers of the Central Division Child Protection Unit (CPU).
They were charged by PC Titus attached to the CPU. Singh was represented by attorney Andre Koomalsingh while Sgt Ramjitsingh was the prosecutor.
They were denied bail and the matter adjourned to tomorrow
