The Coast Guard has recovered the body of a Canadian resident who drowned with his wife on Sunday.
Trinidad born David Francis, 34, and his wife Jessica, 33, who was born in Dominica, went for a swim in Cumana, Toco, at around 4 pm on Sunday. Eyewitnesses said Jessica got into difficulty and when David attempted to save her, both disappeared under the water.
The woman’s body was recovered within an hour of the incident but her husband’s body was not recovered until yesterday.
The couple, married just a few months, arrived in Trinidad on Carnival Friday and was staying at a house on O’Halloran Trace in Cumana.
David, originally from Fairfield Road, Princes Town, was the brother of Prison Officer Darren Francis who was murdered on October 2018 outside their parents’ home at Hindustan Village, Sixth Company. He was fatally shot as he was preparing to leave for work.
