Dwayne Baldeo and Renee Mohammed who are charged with the murder of businessman Christopher Hosein have been remanded into custody.

The Princes Town couple appeared virtually before Princes Town Magistrate Indira Missir-Gosine yesterday. They were arrested hours after Hosein’s charred body was found near a burnt car in a dirt road off Tasker Road, Ste Madeleine on October 28.

According to a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service release, a report was made to police that a motor vehicle was on fire.

Officers from the Mon Repos Fire Station responded and extinguished the blaze.

An autopsy revealed that Hosein, 44, was beaten and set on fire while he was still alive. Hosein worked in the Judiciary as a health and safety officer and was also the managing director of Experts Fire and Safety Limited which he operated at his St James Street, Princes Town home.

It is believed that he was attacked at his home and then taken to the dirt road.

Following investigations supervised by Supt Shaun Dhillpaul of the Homicide Bureau, the Director of Public Prosecutors Roger Gaspard advised that the couple be charged.

Mohammed, 23, was represented by attorney Nazima Ai-Knox while Baldeo, 32, was represented by attorney Subhas Panday.

They were charged by PC Noel.

Prosecutor Sgt Shazeed Mohammed told the magistrate that the file has to be prepared and sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was adjourned to December 4.
