All citizens seeking to access services offered by the Licensing Division are now required to make appointments before visiting the division’s locations.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Ministry of Works and Transport noted that the rule, which also applies to senior citizens, will help the division in maintaining adequate social distancing during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Guardian Media understands that the move came after an incident at the division’s office at Wrightson Road in Port-of-Spain yesterday morning, in which members of the public awaiting appointments were in apparent breach of ongoing public health regulations.

The ministry admitted that some customers may have difficulties in securing appointments due to the exponential increase in transactions caused by the closure of all Licensing Offices in March due to the pandemic.

The ministry advised such citizens to attempt to make their appointments at other locations that may offer time slots more convenient to them. It claimed that next Monday it will launch a new system which would provide extra time slots for customers.

In the release, the ministry noted that the division’s offices in Caroni, Port-of-Spain, Guaico and San Fernando will be offering a number of services daily, including inspections (except at Wrightson Road in Port-of-Spain), reclassifications, regulation examinations, driving tests, permit renewals and applications for provisional permits.

Customers are not required to make appointments to collect inspection certificates, copies and extracts at the offices on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

New and used car dealers are exempted from using the appointments system and their vehicle registration will be conducted on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
