Following the Cabinet’s appointment of a sub-committee to look into the operations of TSTT, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) is questioning why they were not included in this committee.

In a release on Friday morning, the CWU’s secretary general, Clyde Elder said he expects the committee to find the issues the union has been complaining about for the past several years.

Following the Cabinet’s appointment of a sub-committee to look into the operations of TSTT, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) is questioning why they were not included in this committee.

In a release on Friday morning, the CWU’s secretary-general, Clyde Elder said he expects the committee to find the issues the union has been complaining about for the past several years.

But Elder said he is not satisfied that the committee will come back with any real recommendations to save the state-owned company.

“Whilst the Union has been clamouring for such an investigation, we are not convinced that this timing is tantamount to a genuine and concerted effort to “save TSTT” but rather to say “The Government looked at it” and then continue on its course to encourage and support anti-union actions to oust the principle of collective bargaining and revert to full capitalist corporations,” he said.

During a press conference on Thursday, Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young, announced a subcommittee has been formed to examine whether TSTT was fit for purpose. He said the committee is being chaired by Planning and Development Minister, Camille Robinson-Regis, and includes himself, Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales, Finance Minister Colm Imbert and Digital Transformation Minister, Hassel Bacchus.

In response, Elder said he is calling for transparency of the committee’s operations. Elder also lobbied for the union to have a seat at the table. “It is of paramount importance that the future of TSTT must not be premised on a plan which will be disguised as a “veiled attempt” to execute Lisa Agard’s agenda, who not only is recorded as being the WORST CEO in TSTT’s history but an incapable, vacuous and void leader, who did not takeTSTT anywhere under her tenure.”

Elder said TSTT’s planned restructuring exercise must be halted until the sub-committee completes its work with the union’s involvement.
