In light of the preventative measures contained in the PUBLIC HEALTH (2019 NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (2019-nCoV) (NO. 5) Regulations, 2020, the Ministry of Works and Transport has taken a decision to delay the proclamation of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act 2017 which allows for the introduction of a Demerit Points System, new Traffic Ticketing System, and Red Light Camera Enforcement System in Trinidad and Tobago.

This decision was taken in the best interest of all citizens, as we navigate the many challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The general public is reminded that when implemented, this new System will usher in a new and modern era in traffic law enforcement and road safety in Trinidad and Tobago.

The new traffic management systems will have a positive impact on the administration of justice, national security and road safety in Trinidad and Tobago. During this period, the Ministry urges all drivers to exercise due diligence and responsibility on our nation’s roadways as we continue to work towards reducing the high incidence of road deaths and serious road accidents. *
