The Director of the La Casita of Hispanic Cultural Centre, Andreina Briceño-Brown, who also has dual citizenship (Venezuela and T&T) was shot and wounded during a home invasion and robbery at her home in Arima.
Her partner, a 56-year-old Briceño-Brown of 59 Tumpuna Gardens, Arima was robbed of a gold chain valued TT$14,000 and a Samsung J4 cell phone valued $1,000.
According to a police report, at about 7:30 pm on Monday, both victims had just returned from home, having gone to a supermarket at Cocorite Road Arima, when they were accosted by three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
Police said Brown was relieved of his personal belongings while both he and Briceño-Brown were made to lie on the floor.
After robbing Brown, the armed thief shot Briceño-Brown to the left shoulder.
The suspects then escaped in a waiting vehicle then proceeded west along Tumpuna Gardens Arima.
The injured woman was taken to the Arima Hospital.
She is said to be in a stable condition at the hospital.
The centre, which is located on Pro Queen Street, Arima, near the market is frequently visited by Venezuelans who want to take part in cultural events, including music, song and dance.
