A 54-year-old disabled woman is appealing for assistance.

Usha Ramroop, of Bagna Trace, Chase Village, says that her home floods every time it rains because there is no proper drainage system in the area.

Ramroop suffers with her vision and has a speech disorder.

She said the drains to the north of her house are blocked while there are no drains to the front of her house.

Ramroop said there was no drainage problem when she left T&T and moved to New York in 2001 to babysit for a relative.

She said when she returned to T&T in 2018 the drains that run to the back of the house became blocked due to construction works done by a resident of the area.

“I asked them to open it back until I get a drain and they told me no, I have to build my own drain,” she said.

Ramroop said she made an appeal to the MP for Couva North who sent someone to look at the problem.

When contacted Dubraj Persad, the Local Government representative for the Perseverance/Waterloo area on the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC), said he wants to put a drain to the front of Ramroop’s house.

He said, “The CTTRC has not gotten any releases from Central Government to undertake this and many projects. As much as we want to build a drain for this disabled lady, we cannot do so because we are challenged when it comes to getting timely releases. I understand the plight of Miss Ramroop and I would again visit the area on Thursday to see whatever little relief we can give to her.”
