Doctor’s kidnapping suspect back in hospital

A 17-year-old suspect in the kidnapping of Dr Rudradeva Sharma and Dr Prem Naidoo was taken back to the hospital yesterday after he complained to officers that he was experiencing pain.

The minor suffered serious injuries when Sharma’s sports utility vehicle crashed near Macaulay, Claxton Bay last Wednesday. Sharma and one of the suspects were killed.

The teen was discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital on Tuesday with bandages and plaster casts about his head and limbs. Sometime yesterday, however, the minor complained to the police that he was experiencing pain about his body. and taken for medical attention.

Up to last evening, he was still at the hospital.

The other suspect, a 19-year-old labourer of Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, was discharged from the hospital last week.

Police said on Monday he was positively identified by Naidoo in an identification parade. Investigators were expected to meet with the Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday for advice on how to proceed with charges in relation to him.

A third suspect, Akeem Marine, 19, of Lady Hailes Avenue, died at the hospital last Thursday.

Police said the two doctors were at Rushworth Street Extension in San Fernando when they were accosted by three men who robbed them and bundled them into Sharma’s CRV.

The suspects then drove off with the doctors heading north along the Solomon Hochoy Highway when the vehicle crashed in the Macaulay area.

Sharma died at the scene. He was the nephew of former minister and member of parliament Chandresh Sharma.
