Members of the Islamic community said farewell to drowning victim Qadir Shah yesterday.

Shah’s body was recovered around 4.30 pm on Thursday close to the Turtle Rock area, where he got into difficulties and drowned last week Saturday.

He was among a group of 15 hikers who went to Turtle Rock.

A large group of mourners gathered at the Carapichiama Masjid.

Shah’s sister-in-law Ameera Rahaman, said his parents can now rest because they buried their son.

Rahaman thanked all those who were involved in the search.

She said Quadir was an under-16 national cricketer, cricket coach, avid cricketer and footballer.

She said he was a member of the Presysal Cricket Club and well known in the sporting community.

Imtiaz Mohammed, who was part of the air crew search, said the experience was very disheartening.

He said, “Its heartbreaking to know that the drowning took place Saturday and it took days to find the body.”
