Story by CASANDRA THOMPSON-FORBES

Ayanna Webster- Roy has been confirmed as the Member of Parliament for Tobago East, following the results of the General Elections last Monday.

Her contender, PDP candidate Watson Duke, had requested a recount from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) after the results were released on election night. Duke had given no explanation for his decision.

Guardian Media understands that the recount took place at the John Dial Multipurpose Facility on Tuesday. The recount commenced at 3pm, but was halted by Duke, around 9pm after only five ballot boxes were counted.

The final count for Tobago East was:

   – 7,128 for Ayanna Webster- Roy (PNM)

   – 5,866 for Watson Duke (PDP)

   – 80 for Julianna Henry-King (OTV).

PDP Deputy Political Leader, Dr Faith B. Yisrael, confirmed that a press release on the matter would be issued.
