Duracell donates sandbags, ponchos and batteries to the ODPM

With the rainy season here, 1,000 sandbags, 10 cases of D4 Duracell® batteries and 400 ponchos have been donated by Duracell to form part of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management’s (ODPM) Disaster Supply Kits.

They will be distributed to flood-prone communities and businesses across Trinidad and Tobago. These could become necessary with the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) forecasting above normal tropical cyclone (TC) activity during the 2020 Hurricane Season. The TTMS indicates that the most likely number of named tropical storms to occur will be in the range of 4 to 8 while there is the possibility of 1 to 3 hurricanes.

Ross Cabral, Divisional Manager, Liquor and Non-Foods at Massy Distribution (Trinidad)  said, “This handover serves to underscore the importance of Hurricane Preparedness for Duracell. Duracell batteries are essential items in an emergency kit as well as a grab and go bag and can be used to power devices such as flashlights and battery-operated radios. We support the ODPM in its efforts to get persons READY for the Rainy and Hurricane Seasons while minimising the impact of these hazards.”

Chief Executive Officer of the ODPM, Major General (Retired) Rodney Smart, said that the partnership with Duracell is a timely one. He noted that Public Private Partnerships such as this one, are the bedrock of a Whole-of-Society approach to a robust disaster preparedness, response and recovery system. He reiterated that through such strong partnerships, Trinidad and Tobago will be better poised to manage a severe hazard and capable of building back better, faster and stronger.

Duracell and the ODPM agreed to commit to a long-term partnership and affirmed that this strategic partnership is both valuable and significant in building a culture of disaster preparedness and resilience across Trinidad and Tobago.
