Earthquake jolts parts of Trinidad

At 2:48 PM, a earthquake of 3.9 magnitude struck northwest of Port of Spain, Trinidad, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC).

At 2:48 PM, a earthquake of 3.9 magnitude struck northwest of Port of Spain, Trinidad, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC).

The quake was located at 10.904°North and 61.768°West, and at a depth of 42.72 kilometres.

The UWI SRC advised that this information is preliminary and is subject to change when a seismologist reviews additional seismic data.

This minor earthquake was widely reported felt across the northern half of Trinidad, with several persons reporting a rumble before a quick jolt. Felt reports were more common across north-western areas of Trinidad.

Quakes of this magnitude do not typically produce damage.

Following Wednesday afternoon’s earthquake, residents in North-Central Trinidad, located in Maracas, St. Joseph and Five Rivers, Arouca, reported small cracks developing on their homes.
