The UWI Seismic Research Centre is reporting that there was an earthquake, last night, of 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale.

According the UWI Seismic preliminary report, the earthquake originated at a point just off the north-east coast of Venezuela, the north-western coast of Trinidad and the southwestern coast of Grenada.

It occurred at about 10:44 pm, and was at Latitude 10.93 degrees North; and Longitude 62.14 West, and was located at a depth of 83 kilometres.

In terms of its proximity to Trinidad, the earthquake was located 76 km northwest of Port of Spain; 100 km west-northwest of Arima; and 106 km northwest of San Fernando.
