Eight persons were arrested for various offences during an anti-crime exercise conducted in Northern Division today, Thursday 23rd April 2020.

According to official police reports, between the hours of 1:30 am and 6:00 am today, a search warrant exercise was conducted in the Santa Cruz, St Joseph, and Maracas, St Joseph districts.

During the exercise three male suspects were arrested for three counts of shooting with intent, in connection with an offence which occurred on Tuesday 14th April, 2020.

In another incident, three male suspects were arrested for possession of firearms, possession of ammunition and possession of marijuana.

The men had been found with one uwa 9mm Beretta with a magazine and 15 rounds 9mm ammunition; one Glock 19 pistol with a selector attached with a magazine and 14 rounds 9mm ammunition; and an extended magazine with ten rounds 9mm ammunition, four rounds of 5.56 ammunition and 600 grams of marijuana.

Two male suspects also were arrested for the offence of cultivating marijuana (96 plants).

A trap gun—along with one spent 12-gauge cartridge—also was recovered in the Maracas St Joseph district.

The exercise was supervised by Insp Hernandez, Sgt Thomas, Cpl Ramcharan and included members of the St Joseph CID, Operation Strike Back, Task Force Area West and Canine Unit.

Investigations continue.
