
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is urging Oropune residents to report illegal activities and firearms in their area, in light of the arrests of eight people this morning (Tuesday 10 March 2020).
Three women and five men were arrested for possession of firearm, ammunition and camouflage clothing in the Oropune district today, during a crime suppression exercise carried out there between 5:00 am and 8:00 am.
Official police reports indicate that officers of the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) carried out a search of Buildings 240 and 241 in Oropune Gardens, and discovered one pistol and 10 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and a quantity of camouflage clothing.
Three women (ages 31, 34 and 64 years) and the five men (whose ages range from 21 to 64 years) were detained, pending further enquiries.
This morning’s exercise included officers attached to the Northern Division Task Force; the Central, East and West, Divisional CIDs; Canine Road Exercise Team and the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
The Northern Division is pleading with residents Oropune Gardens who may have information on illegal activities and illegal firearms in their area, to pass on the information, to help officers reverse the increasing tide of criminality.
