Eight persons were arrested, and two firearms and quantities of ammunition and marijuana seized by officers of the Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Maraval and St. James districts, yesterday.

The exercises were conducted between 4:00 pm and midnight, on Monday 20th April, 2020

Official police reports are that officers executing a search warrant at the Faustin Trace, Maraval home of a male suspect, discovered 1.2 kilogrammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $12,000. The suspect who was in the house at the time of the search was arrested in connection with the find.

Task Force officers then proceeded to the Long Circular, St. James home of another male suspect, where they found one pistol, loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. The man was arrested in connection with that find.

During the same exercise, officers had cause to search a derelict Nissan motor vehicle parked on the side of the roadway, which resulted in the seizure of one AR-15 rifle loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

A search of a nearby abandoned house also resulted in officers finding two soft drink cases filled with marijuana seedlings and 936 grammes of marijuana.

Six more suspects were held in the Four Roads district in connection with a video on social media showing them in possession of several illegal firearms.
