Eight Venezuelan nationals are currently in police custody after they were held in a vehicle with a shotgun in Central Trinidad.
According to a police report, at about 1.40 am on Tuesday, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force were doing patrols in Chaguanas when they had cause to intercept a Nissan AD wagon which appeared to be overloaded with people.
The vehicle was stopped, and inside the car, the officers found eight Venezuelan nationals.
The driver of the vehicle was a resident of Trinidad and Tobago, police said.
All occupants of the vehicle were ordered out of the car and a search of the vehicle conducted during which an unloaded shotgun was found.
Search warrants were expected to be executed at the home of the driver, as well as several other locations, yesterday.
Investigations are continuing.
