An elderly couple was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint at their home in Tunapuna on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at 6.30 pm.
Police said the couple ages 69 and 68 were at their home at Centenary Extension, Tunapuna when they heard a loud noise followed by four masked storming into their home.
The men, police said, announced a robbery and assaulted the 68-year-old man by hitting him several times about the body. They then robbed the victims of an estimated $12,000 in cash from their home, along with other valuables, including cellular phones, and an estimated $15,000 in jewellery.
The men then took the keys to vehicle TCK 9165 a grey Toyota Hilux valued $250,000 and drove off with it with the loot.
The police were subsequently contacted and a team of officers led by PC Paul responded.
Investigators are in the process of gathering CCTV footage for review to assist them in their investigations.
