With defending Soca Monarch Hollice “Mr Killa” Mapp opting out of the competition this year, all eyes will be on Iwer George whose collaboration with Kes the Band “Stage Gone Bad” has won the hearts of soca lovers across the country.

George will take the stage in the seventh position in the Power Soca category at the International Soca Monarch (ISM) competition on Fantastic Friday (February 21.)

In a brief interview yesterday with Guardian Media, ISM’s creative director Simon Baptiste confirmed that Mr Killa would not be defending his title this year.

Baptiste said he met with Mr Killa’s team earlier this week and while he described the meeting as cordial and productive, he said Mr Killa was not budging on his decision to pull out of the competition.

He said Mr Killa maintained that he did not have enough time to prepare.

George meanwhile has been rooting for his fourth Soca Monarch title for years, after last having captured the title in 2007 with ‘Fete after fete.’
