Finance Minister to announce relief measures for citizens affected by lockdown

Finance Minister Colm Imbert is expected to announce relief measures to citizens affected by the lockdowns to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus on Monday.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said the Government will ensure that families who need food support receive it.He said he is committing to ensure wherever children are involved; the Government will do all it can to ensure they do not go hungry.

He said for the past several days the Government has been discussing what measures it can introduce to assist those most affected by the lockdown, and Imbert will announce those measures on Monday.

Rowley said the requirements to access that assistance should be published by Tuesday.
The Prime Minister said the Agriculture Ministry has been working to prepare food packages to distribute to needy families.

He said 2,000 packages have already prepared for delivery and the Government is aiming to have 25,000 packages prepared.
He said the country’s 41 Members of Parliament will be asked to identify the families in their constituencies who will require food support.
