A fisherman was fatally shot during a robbery at his Claxton Bay home last night.

The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Deosaran Basdeo, also known as Blackie, of Southern Main Road, Claxton Bay.

Guardian Media understands that shortly before 8 pm on Wednesday July 28th, Basdeo was asleep on a bed in his home. It is alleged that a man wearing dark clothing and a mask stormed into the house and threatened Basdeo’s wife and his 17-year-old grandson with a weapon.

The bandit reportedly robbed them at gunpoint of cash, jewellery, a phone and a tablet.

The man then went into the next room where Basdeo was still asleep and shot him on the bed.

Investigations are ongoing.
