Quick response by police officers attached to the Rio Claro Police Station into a report of robbery led to the arrest of five alleged bandits, a gun and ammo, and all items—including money— taken by the bandits at gunpoint on Thursday.

Police reported that Pooran Ramoutar, 46, of San Pedro Road, Rio Claro was conducting sales at his business establishment—an Pedro Feed Shop—when five men in a white AD wagon approached him pretending to be customers and asked to purchase feed.

One man took out a firearm and the others were armed with cutlasses and knives.

They announced a hold-up.

The man with the cutlass ‘planassed’ the victim in his body and face and then the men proceeded to rob him of cash, cell phones and keys before making their escape in the vehicle.

A report was made to the Rio Claro Police Station and police constables Sutherland and Rampersad who were on enquiries in the Rio Claro district intercepted the vehicle at Brickfield Brothers Road where the men were arrested.

Those arrested and charged have been identified as Damian Peters, 42, of St Andrew’s Avenue Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, Kern Wilson, 21, of St Criox Road, Princes Town, Jeremiah Osouna, 23, of Mt D’or Road Champs Fleur, Emmanuel Yarde, 30, of Pond Street Vistabella and

Niron Chevalor, 23, (held while driving of the vehicle) of Quarry Road Champs Fleur.

With the assistance Ag Sgt Ramdan and a party of officers from the Eastern Division and Emergency Response Patrol Unit, a search was conducted in the vehicle and one revolver loaded with six live rounds of .38 ammunition together with cash, cellphones and other items were allegedly recovered.

The men were subsequently taken to the Rio Claro Police Station.

Further enquiries revealed that the vehicle bore a false registration and the correct registration plates were found in the vehicle.

Pc Sutherland cautioned the men and then jointly charged them with robbery with aggravation, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
