Police attached to Eastern Division have arrested four people in Rio Claro for the possession of two guns, seven 12-gauge cartridges and marijuana field valued at $800,000.
According to police, they carried out an exercise around 12:30 pm at the home of a 30-year-old man of Mahabalsingh Trace, Navet, Rio Claro and where they observed the man holding a Maverick Mossberg pump-action shotgun.
Police say a 25-year-old man was screwing the butt of the gun with a screwdriver.
Police arrested both men seized the gun and ammunition.
Around 2 pm the police went to a camp 50 feet off Old Rio Claro Road, where they saw two men watering marijuana plants.
Police said the men did not make any attempt to run but subdued themselves to the police.
One of the men had a shotgun in his possession and six rounds of 12-gauge cartridges. Both men were arrested. The gun and ammunition were seized and the camp and over 800 marijuana trees destroyed and burnt.
The exercise was co-ordinated by Senior Superintendent Aguilal, supervised by Ag Inspectors Samaroo, Joseph and included Sgts Mmahabir, Maharaj, Ag Cpls Denoon, Neaves, PCs Bachoo, Mohammed, Abraham, Mahabir and WPC Gilead.
The charges which included marijuana cultivation, possession of firearm and ammunition were laid by Ag Cpl Neaves and PC Mahabir respectively.
The arrested men will appear before a Rio Claro Magistrate Court today.
