Roughly five people were arrested for various weapons related offences as a result of police exercises conducted on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February 2020.

Police are investigating four murders over the last 24 hours.

Around midday yesterday, a 40-year-old man from Toco Road, Matura was stabbed to death by a female relative during a domestic dispute.

Police have detained a suspect in connection with the killing.

Meanwhile, around 9:15 last evening, 37-year-old Kevin Venus of First Trace, Tunapuna was standing in the road when a vehicle pulled up alongside him.

Two men exited and opened fire before fleeing in the waiting vehicle.

Police and paramedics responded. However, Venus died at the scene.

Moments earlier around 9 pm Saturday, 31-year-old Kwame Sandiford of Ste Madeleine was shot and killed while standing in front his home along George Street. (See page 15)

Also, around 5 pm Saturday, residents of Galaxy Gardens, D’abadie heard several loud explosions.

Upon investigating, Dinelvi Tinto was discovered lying in a pool of blood. His body bore several gunshot wounds. Police are yet to determine a motive for the killing.

Meanwhile, the decomposing body of a man has been discovered in Caura Saturday.

Guardian Media understands that around 5 pm Saturday, a passer-by discovered the body in a forested area off Royal Road, near Pool Number 1.

Police were contacted but could not determine the man’s identity due to the advanced stage of decomposition.

Preliminary reports indicated the body bore marks of violence.

Police are asking the public to assist in identifying the body.
