Gasparee Island drowning

A 26-year-old man from Couva is believed to have drowned after he suffered a seizure while swimming in the waters off Gasparee Island on Sunday.

His body was found by divers, members of the T&T Coast Guard (TTCG).

According to a police report, at about 2.49 pm Darrius Arneaud, 26, of 330 Susan Street, Lisas Garden, a construction worker was working on a property off Bora View, Gasparee Island when he decided to go for a swim.

While swimming, Arneaud got into difficulties and went under the water.

Several checks around the vicinity was made which proved futile, however, at about 3:50 pm Petty Officer Boroughs and a party of officers from the TTCG retrieved the body which was subsequently brought to Staubles Bay, where it was identified by Denise Joseph, Arneaud’s mother.
