Gov’t cheques stolen from Sangre Grande Post Office

The Ministry of Social Development says various cheques for various grants and senior citizens pension were stolen during a break in at the Sangre Grande Post Office this morning. A total of 1836 cheques were reported stolen.

The Ministry says all Financial Institutions, Merchants and Supermarkets were asked to be on the alert should these cheques be presented for payment.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services advises general public that it was brought to the Ministry’s attention earlier this morning, that a break-in occurred at the Sangre Grande Post Office, which resulted in some of the cheques related to the various grants and senior citizens pension being stolen. While this is an unfortunate circumstance, the Ministry is cognizant that many of its clients will be adversely affected and so, the Ministry is seeking the public’s indulgence and patience during this time.

A total of 1,836 cheques were reported stolen. All Financial Institutions, Merchants and Supermarkets were asked to be on the alert should these cheques be presented for payment. A list of these cheques are available on the Ministry’s Website and social media platforms, and will be published in the newspapers.
