Grande officer survives gun attack

A manhunt has been launched by Eastern Division Police for a suspect who attempted to kill one of their colleagues.

Police reported that around 10 pm Wednesday, the police officer assigned to Eastern Division Task Force Sangre Grande was about to enter his vehicle at Road 6, North Eastern Settlement when several shots were fired at him.

According to a report given to investigators, the officer took cover and hid at the side of his vehicle, drew his firearm and returned fire.

The shooter ran away and made good his escape and disappeared.

No one was reported injured in the shootout between the police and his unknown shooter.

Police officers from the Sangre Grande Task Force led by Sgt Katwaroo responded to their colleague’s call for assistance.

The North-Eastern area was combed by police officers for the gunman, but their search proved futile.

The police have several leads and called on the shooter to surrender to the Sangre Grande Police Station.

Investigators said the shooter is armed and dangerous and advised members of the public to refrain from hiding him from the police.

They added if anyone knew his whereabouts, they should immediately contact the Sangre Grande Police at 668-2224 or the nearest police station.
