Former police commissioner Gary Griffith said citizens have not heard the last from him.

Even if he is not selected as the new Police Commissioner, Griffith said he intends to continue serving his country.

He could not, however, confirm whether he intends to dust off his political cap adding that it is “unfortunate” the top cop selection process had become political.

Griffith said he will decide on his next move only when the process comes to an end.

Griffith, who spoke on CNC3’s The Morning Brew programme on Tuesday, criticised former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) Bliss Seepersad for dropping the ball on the merit list of nominees.

He said it is vital for those appointed as the new board of the PSC to take action on the merit list. The debate for the PSC nominees will take place today.

In a public statement last month, President Paula-Mae Weekes revealed that a list was submitted to her on August 12 but was rescinded shortly after, therefore, there was no list to forward to the Parliament for debate. Griffith noted there was no issue on how the list was “structured or drafted”.

“It is the hope that the new PSC will deal with this issue and the best way to deal with this issue for the country to exhale and get a substantial Commissioner of Police is for the new PSC to take that merit list and do what Bliss Seepersad failed to do and forward it to the President,” he said.
