The Guanapo Landfill will remain closed to the public today, Thursday 30th January 2020.
According to an official statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL), the move is necessary because of a fire which occurred yesterday at the site.
SWMCOL says its officials are on site and implementing mitigation measures.
The company is advising users of the Guanapo Landfill to use the Beetham or Forres Park Landfill Sites temporarily.
In addition, residents of the surrounding areas also are being advised to exercise caution.
In the release, SWMCOL apologizes for any inconvenience caused and says it is working diligently to deal with the situation at the Guanapo Landfill.
