Elise de la Bastide, a student of Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain has been awarded the 2022 Korean Government Scholarship Program to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Handong Global University in Pohang-si, a major industrial city in Korea.

According to a press release from the Korean Embassy, prior to the four year degree program, Ms. de La Bastide will spend one additional year studying the Korean Language at Sun Moon University in order to familiarize herself with her new environment and student life in Korea which commence in March of this year.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is pleased to announce that Elise de la Bastide of Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain has been awarded the 2022 Korean Government Scholarship Program to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Handong Global University in Pohang-si, a major industrial city in Korea. Prior to the four (4) year degree program, Ms. de La Bastide will spend one (1) additional year studying the Korean Language at Sun Moon University in order to familiarize herself with her new environment and student life in Korea which commence in March of this year.

Elise de la Bastide has expressed a keen interest to study in Korea and is looking forward to exploring Korean culture and language while furthering her educational goals in technology. On February 1 st , 2022, Ms. de la Bastide had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Dongil Oh at the Embassy in which he provided encouraging advice and useful information for her stay in Korea.

The Korean Government through the National Institute for International Education’s (NIIED) Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program offers scholarships to international students who wish to pursue their undergraduate and graduate degrees at Korean tertiary educational institutions. The Korean Government Scholarships are selected on the basis of academic merit and will cover the full cost of study including one
year of study for the Korean Language.

The Korean Government Scholarship Program has been a great platform for the exchange of young scholars between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, which will certainly contribute to future cooperation and fruitful exchanges between our two countries in the years to come.
