There will be no grand celebration to end 2020 but, the Hyatt Regency Hotel says customers can still do so in a more intimate yet lavish style by having dinner at its waterfront restaurant.
Each year the hotel hosts a grand End of Year party but because of the public health restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel confirms that there will be none this year.
In response to questions sent to Guardian Media this week, Hyatt’s General Manager, Richard Westell, said it has been a very difficult year for the hotel as occupancy has fallen to single digits.
“It is very evident to most of us, that this has been a uniquely challenging year for the world. Globally, the hospitality and travel industries have been the hardest hit and Trinidad and Tobago has been impacted as much as most destinations,” he stated.
Westell noted that local business is just not enough to achieve anywhere near usual occupancy levels closing less than 30 per cent of 2019.
“Business demand overall is abnormally low but Hyatt Regency Trinidad is eager to welcome those wanting to get away and take a break with family”, he indicated.
With social distancing protocols, Westell said events and large gatherings have almost ground to a halt, so the normal end of year celebrations will be different.
“A wonderful buffet awaits, offering our signature sushi rolls, fresh salads from the waterfront home garden, speciality entrees, sensational seafood, decadent desserts, local favourites, a live station, carving station and more,” according to Westell.
Hopeful for a good turnout on Thursday, Westell assured that all of the public health protocols will be observed by ensuring social distancing and sanitization throughout the hotel.
Furthermore, Westell noted, “In keeping with Hyatt’s Global Care and Cleanliness Commitment, Hyatt Regency Trinidad has in place an enhanced level of international safety and cleanliness protocols. The hotel is GBAC Star certified and accredited, having been through cleanliness and hygiene training with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council.”
Guardian Media also reached out to Hilton Hotel, another popular spot for the end of year festivities and parties however, responses to our questions were not forthcoming up to press time.
