'If I can't have you nobody else can' – Woman stabbed by common-law husband

A 35-year-old woman was stabbed and wounded after her common-law husband threatened her not to have anyone else but him at their home in Arima on Saturday.

According to a police report, at about 8.30 am the woman was at their Arima home with her three children (all minors) and her common-law-husband, age 45, when an argument broke out between them.

The man then dealt her several stab wounds about the head, neck, shoulder and arms, saying “If I cyah have yuh then nobody else cyah have yuh.”

He then self-inflicted several wounds to his hand before running away.

The victim was taken to the Arima Health Facility where she was treated and warded in a stable condition.

Officers from the Arima CID visited the scene and conducted enquiries. Statements were recorded from the victim and an independent witness and the suspect was subsequently arrested and also taken to seek medical attention at the Arima Health Facility.

After being medically examined he was discharged into police custody.
