Inter-ministerial committee meets with WASA officials

The first meeting between the inter-ministerial committee appointed by the Cabinet and the Board of Commissioners of WASA was held on Monday. The inter-ministerial committee is charged with the transformation of the water sector in this country following recommendations by a Cabinet Sub Committee. The following is a press release from the Ministry of Public Utilities:

The inter-ministerial committee appointed by Cabinet to look into the operations of the Water and Sewerage Authority, WASA, held its first meeting with the Board of Commissioners of the Authority on Monday, at the Ministry’s Head Office in St. Clair.

The Committee, which is charged with the transformation of the water sector in Trinidad and Tobago, held the meeting to discuss the way forward for the Utility and the implementation of recommendations, emanating from the report of the Cabinet Sub Committee, which was presented to the Cabinet in December 2020.

The Board provided updates to the inter-ministerial team, on the status of implementation of the recommendations, with time – frames and reporting requirements for agreed upon deliverables.

The meeting which was Chaired by Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Penelope Beckles, was also attended by Planning Minister and Development Minister, the Honourable Camille Robinson Regis, and Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan.

Also in attendance were Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox, and Minister in the Ministry of Finance, the Honourable Brian Manning, as well as Minister of Public Utilities, the Honourable Marvin Gonzales.
