Intruder killed by homeowner identified

The intruder who was shot dead during an attempted home invasion in Freeport on Monday morning, has been identified.

The intruder who was shot dead during an attempted home invasion in Freeport on Monday morning, has been identified.

Police said the dead suspect was identified as Travis Chankadial from Freeport.

According to a police report, at about 12:55 am, the homeowner at Calcutta Settlement #2 told police that he was awakened by noises in his house.  As he exited his bedroom in an attempt to make checks, he reportedly was confronted by the intruder who was dressed in dark clothing, wearing a hoodie and mask.

The homeowner said he ran back into his bedroom, and the intruder attempted to follow him but he slammed the door on the intruder’s hand and a firearm fell to the floor.

The homeowner said he grabbed the firearm, opened the door, and discharged several shots at the intruder.

As the intruder collapsed, the homeowner ran to the neighbour’s house and alerted them and contacted police.

Officers of the Freeport Police Station, Chaguanas CID and Central Division Task Force responded and processed the scene and are continuing investigations.
