Jamaica confirms first case of Covid- 19

Jamaica has confirmed its first case of the novel coronavirus currently making its way around the world. 

According to a statement by jamaica’s minister of health and wellness Christopher Tufton, the patient is a Jamaican female who had travelled from the united kingdom, which has cases of covid19.

She arrived on the island on March 4th, presented to the public health system on March 9th and has been in isolation since then.

The minister advised the Jamaican population to “remain calm and to implement all the advisories relating to overall infection prevention control.

He assured the government would continue to keep the public informed.

According to the Caribbean public health agency’s statistics, this brings the total number of confirmed cases in the Caribbean to 12.
