Jamaican granted $60,000 bail for cruelty to a child

A 42-year-old Jamaican man was granted $60,000 bail with a surety when he appeared in a virtual hearing before a Scarborough Magistrate, charged with cruelty to a child. The hearing took place on Monday 22nd February 2021.

A 42-year-old Jamaican man was granted $60,000 bail with a surety when he appeared in a virtual hearing before a Scarborough Magistrate, charged with cruelty to a child.  The hearing took place on Monday 22nd February 2021.

The accused, who lives at Dutch Fort in Scarborough, Tobago, was granted bail by Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor.

He was charged on Saturday February 20th with one count of cruelty to a child by WPC Trim of the Tobago Division’s Child Protection Unit (CPU).  The charge was laid after WPC Trim investigated a report made to the police by a 12-year-old, that he allegedly was beaten by a man.

The accused was also ordered to have no communication with the child.

He will reappear before the court on Monday 22nd March 2021.

The investigations were supervised by W/Supt (Ag) Claire Guy-Alleyne (Head of the Gender-Based Violence Unit), Sgt. Millie and (Ag) Cpl Clarke.
