The School’s Intellectual Chutney Soca Monarch competition is appealing for additional sponsorship.

Head of the National Chutney Foundation of T&T (NCFTT), Dr Viay Rai, said the competition has a budget of $250,000 but needs additional funding from the private sector to boost prizes and infrastructure.

Rai said the event comes off on February 19, at the Grand Stand, Queens Park Savannah. Rai said more schools have come on board and the NCFTT was inviting even more schools to participate in the event that was given the blessings of the Ministry of Education. Rai said auditions take place this Saturday from 10 am at the Saith Park Pavilion, Chaguanas.

He said students and their parents can walk with their lyrics to the semi-finals and would appear before the selectors. Rai said intellectual nation-building and thought-provoking lyrics are what the judges are looking for. Rai said at no time should any lyrics degrade individuals, institutions, people’s religion, race and culture.

In 2019 Avindah Singh of Tamana Hindu primary school won the junior leg of the competition with ‘Take Your Education’ and Mackhaydon Charles of Miracle Ministries High won the seniors round with ‘Thank You, Uncle Gary.’
