Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is skeptical about the Prime Minister’s call for foreign investigators to probe the Drugs Sou Sou matter.

She made the comment while addressing the United National Congress Virtual Report on Monday night.

Last week, during a town meeting in Belmont, Prime Minister Dr Rowley announced that investigators from the United Kingdom and Barbados will come to T&T after l four local officers were suspended with several others being transferred following a probe into the recent seizure and return of millions dollars from the La Horquetta organisation.

The Opposition Leader was bemused by this turn of events, as she pointed to the absence of foreign involvement in the August general election.

“This is the man who could not afford to bring election observers, could not afford to open the borders to bring in election, open the borders, he didn’t have money. But this is the same man want to spend money now about DSS or something,” said Persad-Bissessar.

But the Opposition Leader’s reservations did not end there, as she asked if anything would come out of the investigation if the Government gets involved.

“Before he didn’t agree, now he agrees to send the Commissioner of Police somewhere and then he takes over the investigation, Moonilal had spoken in the Parliament on the privatizing of National Security, when it comes now what will happen, what will happen, the same thing will happen with every report the Prime Minister has taken over. You remember that he took over the Darryl Smith matter, up to today we have not seen that report,” said the Siparia MP.

The former prime minister said she did not have much details about the DSS matter, but she would have no issue with individuals obtaining money through legal means, however she understood that several senior officials had been named in a report as being involved.

During last Thursday’s meeting , the Prime Minister had described the DSS as a cancer which could would eat the soul of the nation as he announced plans for the foreign investigators.
