Khan’s Poultry and Meats Limited has pumped $16 million into business ventures in Chaguanas.

This disclosure was made by Nyal Khan, Director at Khan’s Poultry, when he spoke with Guardian Media on Wednesday, following the opening of the company’s newest branch at Munroe Road, Chaguanas.

Khan said $3 million was invested at the Munroe Road branch, another $3 million was invested at the Rodney Road, Chaguanas Branch that is scheduled to be opened next Wednesday, while some $10 million was pumped into the Raw Fitness Health Club that is scheduled for opening at Brentwood Mall in February 2022.

He said Chaguanas was chosen because of the large volume of people living in the community.  Khan said the Khan’s Poultry brand plans to expand across Trinidad with new branches opening yearly, and there are plans to open a branch in Couva come 2022.

Nyal Khan told Guardian Media despite the pandemic, poultry remains the top choice of meat for consumers because of its affordability, noting the demand for goat and lamb fell.

“We saw people moving more towards poultry products because it was cheaper,” he revealed.

Khan said the fitness centre would be the second gym for the group, and the decision to do the gym was taken before the onset of the pandemic.

He said it was a long term investment.

“The fitness industry is a growing industry which is simply because of the cultural habits of people. The culture 10 and 20 years ago has changed.  Fifty to 60 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 35 years are going to a gym. People want to be active and be healthy,” he observed.

At today’s launch of the new Munroe Road branch, Khan recalled to those present that the business was started by his father, Wazir Khan, in Marabella around 1990.

“He built his business based on hard work, honesty and quality.  ‘Quality you can trust’ are major watchwords of the company.  This is what we build our brand on.  We are very much customer focused,” he stated.

Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohamed said the borough welcomes all new businesses.  He reported that more businesses are entering the Chaguanas landscape and generating employment and opportunities for burgesses.
