La Brea man charged with indecent assault against 16-year-old girl granted $175,000

A 36-year-old man from La Brea has been charged with indecent assault, showing pornographic images to a minor, and possession of marijuana. The suspect was granted $175,000 bail when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Alicia Chankar at the Point Fortin Magistrates’ Court yesterday. He was also ordered to stay 100 metres away from the victim. The accused is expected to reappear on Tuesday 17th August 2021.

According to police reports, the 16-year-old girl and a relative made a report to the Point Fortin Municipal Police Station, alleging that the man had touched her and showed her pornographic videos from his phone in April 2021. WPC Thomas-Rouse, of the Point Fortin Municipal Police under the supervision of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) South Western Child Protection Unit (CPU), conducted investigations.

A search warrant executed at the suspects home resulted in officers seizing one flash drive, one micro SD card and one sim card belonging to the man. A further search resulted in a quantity of marijuana amounting to 110 grammes being found and seized. The 36-year-old man was arrested on July 17th. He was subsequently charged for the offences by WPC Thomas-Rouse. The investigation was supervised by Sgt Taylor of the CPU and Cpl Jaggessar of the Point Fortin Municipal Police.
