Even as relatives of the second murder victim of a brutal cutlass attack two Sundays ago prepare for her funeral today, her killer is still on the run.

Mother of two Monica Jagroop will be laid to rest under Hindu rites today, four days after her brother-in-law Anterro McQueen was buried. Both of them were hacked to death on November 7 by a 33-year-old relative who ran amok with a cutlass.

A report stated that around 10.50 pm, McQueen, who lived downstairs his in-laws’ house at Farmer Trace, Sancho Road, New Grant, was at home with his wife Indra Jagroop and two children.

The suspect called out to the couple.

When McQueen came out of his home, the suspect chopped him on the neck and head. He then chopped McQueen’s wife as she ran to his assistance. Indra’s father, Manickchand Jagroop, was also chopped when he came out of the house after hearing the commotion. The suspect then went to Monica’s home, mere houses away, and chopped her several times. He ran off and has not been seen since.

Indra’s left hand was chopped off and she was also injured on her shoulder. She was allowed to leave the hospital to attend the funeral service of her husband, which took place last Friday at a church in Ste Madeleine. She has since returned to the hospital. Doctors were able to reattach her hand.

Meanwhile, her 72-year-old father, who was chopped on the face, was discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital on Saturday. He is expected to attend Monica’s funeral service and cremation, which is carded for the Shore of Peace, Mosquito Creek, South Oropouche, at 10 am.
