Laventille man charged with 2021 murder

A Laventille man is expected to appear virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, Monday 21st March 2022, charged with the murder of Mandela Zaid Mason, which occurred on 23rd November 2021.

A Laventille man is expected to appear virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, Monday 21st March 2022, charged with the murder of Mandela Zaid Mason, which occurred on 23rd November 2021.

NKOSI CORBIN, aka “Kosi”, 21, of Upper Picton Road, also was charged with possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Saturday 19th March 2022.

Official police reports state that 33-year-old Mandela Zaid Mason, aka “Mani”, also of Upper Picton Road, Laventille, was walking along the roadway close to his home on Tuesday 23rd November 2021, when he was confronted by two gunmen who shot at him several times. The assailants then escaped. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment where he died.

The accused was arrested by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One. Corbin was charged with the offences by WPC Clarke, also of HBI Region One, on Saturday 19th March 2022.

Investigations were supervised by Insp. Lynch, Jones and Mongroo, all of the HBI Region One, with the assistance of officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force.
