A Laventille man is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate tomorrow, charged with the murder of Jamaican national Neil Johnson last Wednesday.

Kadeem “Circles” Williams, 25, of Tilbury Street, Laventille, was also charged with possession of firearm and ammunition, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC.

Johnson, 46, was originally from May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica.

On December 15, Johnson was in the company of another man at the Brian Lara Promenade around 12:30 am, when they were approached by an armed assailant. The gunman fired several shots in the direction of the men before running off.

Officers on patrol observed the gunman running along the Promenade and apprehended him shortly after. They recovered a silver Glock 48 pistol loaded with a magazine and five rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Johnson suffered gunshot injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment but died on December 16.

Williams was charged by WPC Jules of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 1, on Friday.
