The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago notes with deep concern reports of what it perceives to be several threats against the life of a High Court Judge, Mr. Justice Frank Seepersad.

The Judiciary is the guardian of justice and the corner-stone of a democratic society based on the rule of law. Judges are entrusted with the fundamental role of the protection of rights and must, at all cost, be able to function without fear, favour, bias or prejudice.

Such threats are extremely disturbing and are, in no uncertain terms, an attempt to directly undermine the authority and independence of the Judiciary.

The Law Association therefore strongly condemns such attacks on the Judiciary and is confident that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will continue to thoroughly investigate and promptly bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.
