January 25 is the date for the five by-elections which will be held to replace councillors who went on to become Members of Parliament after the August 10 general elections.
Nomination date is January 4.
Both are the same dates for the Tobago House of Assembly elections.
The dates were announced by the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday. The OPM issued a copy of the notice sent to the President on the issue.

Those who formerly held those respective Local Government seats are: Kennedy Richards (now PNM Point Fortin MP), Michelle Benjamin (now UNC Moruga MP), Vandana Mohit (now UNC Chaguanas East MP), Lisa Morris Julian (now PNM D’Abadie O’Meara MP) and Symon de Nobriga (now PNM Diego Martin Central MP).
The PNM screened people for the seats on Monday and announced prospective candidates on Tuesday:

Yesterday, prior to the announcement, new UNC chairman Dave Tancoo said candidate screening was the National Executive’s responsibility and this body will meet soon and decide.
The executive is expected to hold its first meeting before Christma, he said.
The executive was elected last Sunday.
Tancoo said he was aware “many had expressed interest by email and letters to the secretariat.”
However, nomination forms are to be done and a timeframe for this will be announced soon.
