Thirty-four-year old Sheldon Robinson was denied bail and remanded into custody when he appeared before Magistrate Ava Vandenburg-Bailey at the Mayaro Magistrates’ Court today, charged with fraud. The matter is scheduled for hearing on January 31st.

Robinson of Erin Road, Siparia and Peter Hill Extension Mayaro was charged with uttering a fraudulent document and attempting to obtain $50,000 by false pretences on January 24th.

According to police reports, the accused allegedly went to a commercial bank in Mayaro to secure a loan in the sum of $50,000. During the interview with the loans officer and a supervisor, the accused allegedly tendered a job letter from a technology company.

The loans officer then conducted a verification process of the documents, where it was confirmed by the Human Resources Manager of the technology company that the job letter was fraudulent.

The matter was reported the Mayaro Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the officers then conducted an investigation, which led to the arrest of the accused. PC Sarabjit then charged the man with uttering a fraudulent document and attempting to obtain $50,000 by false pretences.
